Great isolated house in the woods
Great, private cabin in the woods. The Nut House was everything it claimed to be. Tony responded to all my questions within a few minutes, every time! We had deer in the yard our first night. The cabin is well maintained. There are lots of puzzles, games, DVDs, a ping pong table (which my sons really enjoyed), a hot tub, and a fire pit. My 84 year old mother loved to sit in the screened in porch and watch the boys play corn hole or throw football. We went to the river and used the kayaks, inter tubes, and paddle boards. All in all, if you go there knowing it’s in the woods so you will probably see a mouse, and have bugs, you will really enjoy yourselves. We had a great vacation there.
Such a lovely place! Area is great with the private lake. Loved the deck and the house.
Such a clean, comfortable cabin with easy access to Berkeley Springs, WV.
We enjoyed our stay here! Tony has been a great host and communicator. The place is clean and comfortable for the four of us. We were able to really relax right when we entered the house. We look forward to another stay in the very near future.
The perfect riverside getaway
This cabin was perfect for our family to escape the DC area for a weekend. All we had to bring was clothes and food - everything else was provided for. The house is huge and has so many things to do for kids including fooseball, airhocky, tubing, a huge yard leading down to the river, and beautiful fire pit. We had the best time and would definitely come back again. One tip - cell phone service is not very reliable, so be sure to screenshot the doorcode before getting there! The owner Julie is super responsive and accomodating - she even found us a babysitter in the area!!
Great place! the price is a steal for what you get! the host was very communicative and helpful. we had a door that was stuck and Tony had someone come help right away!
Tony’s place is great!
absolutely loved the house! super cute and great location. only 15 minutes from the cute town with everything you need like a Food Lion, multiple restaurants & a few breweries. house was great, patio was our favorite place to hang and we had plenty of space.
Tony was a great host. He was on top of everything from the moment I booked the cottage. If I had any ?’s he would respond back promptly. He was a pleasure to work with.
Great location to enjoy the outdoors and the river.
Communication with owners was superior and they were extremely responsive to any concern that we had. House can accommodate a large group. Plentiful ways to enjoy the river and the outdoors are available, including views from the kitchen, two porches and two picnic tables. Fire pit with several Adirondack chairs is fun for s'mores and hanging out at night. The lawn is vast and great for catches and night-time stargazing. Several tubes are available for use and put-in location is a short drive or walk from the house. The other side of this coin is that it is a 15 minute (very scenic) drive to the main road and about an hour to Shenandoah National Park. Outdoor grilling is easy. More specific directions for how to use the television and other electrical things would have been helpful, as would a teapot and oven mitts. Air conditioning is a bit uneven. Oven and refrigerator could use a cleaning. We did not use the indoor fireplace, though this is likely very nice in winter. A beautiful part of the country; ice cream and strolling around Woodstock is a treat, as is exploring Strasburg and Front Royal.
Such a great place! The scenery is so beautiful and peaceful and the river is very lovely. My kids were so happy playing in the river. We tried stand up paddle boarding and went tubing! The porch is great and comfortable and all the couches and space are nice for families or friends hanging out. Our multi-generational family of 6 plus a dog had plenty of space, even on rainy days. The hot tub was really nice and the fire pit was too. I loved that there is a full size washer and dryer and a dishwasher.
You will need to drive down to the river-but it's not too far and the drive is hilariously steep.
Important note! The coffee maker is a Keurig, so bring pods or be prepared to make coffee using a colander and a coffee filter over a coffee carafe like we did!
There is very little cell service in the area which is nice but is a thing to keep in mind, the wifi at the cabin works really well and we could use streaming services on the TV with no problem.
The kitchen is very functional but on the older side, the one side of the range is a griddle which is just awesome for making pancakes! They have some pretty decent non-stick cookware with many appropriate kitchen tools, and many grill tools as well. Not sure where they are hiding their matches though, so make sure you bring a lighter or matches for the fire pit and all your other fire-starting needs.
Some of the roads to the cabin are gravel and some are SUPER steep. No problem in June, maybe more of a problem in the winter months?
Also, I'm still not sure where the best place to put in and get out for tubing is. The Cacapon River seemed pretty slow moving and we were there right after a pretty big rain storm. I REALLY liked that because it was safer for my kiddos (AND there are 4 adult and 2 child life jackets at the cabin). Make sure you bring your own beach towels, we did, but I didn't see any at the cabin. Next time I will try an organized tubing adventure, but they seem to be operating Thursday-Sunday only right now. We decided to try some DIY tubing and it ended up being a pretty zany adventure.
Great, but it could have been better
Positive:
The communication with host and the location of the property
Negative:
The house fees include a $125 cleaning fee which seems a bit high for the length of time we stayed (1 night) and the housekeepers seem to cut corners to clean the house. Bathrooms and bedding were clean, but floors throughout the house were barely cleaned, Dust, hair, etc. all over the floors, I understand is cabin in the woods, but at the same time is not a rustic cabin in the woods. The appliances have a layer of grease on all of them. The fridge still have some things from previous renters, bag of ice that smell like a wet dog in the freezer. Trash can outside was full and had to stack our trash on top of the canister. Not too thrill with what I paid in cleaning fees. Seems like the owner is either not getting his money's worth for the services he is paying for,
The house is lit up as you arrive - so welcoming, as well making it as easy to find. Inside, it's just as pictured - new, bright & modern vibe, great use of the space. Kitchen was nicely stocked. Location is way off the beaten path but so quiet & peaceful - the wonderful porch/deck overlooks a gravel road, but almost no one drives it, so totally private! And it's easy to drive to where you want - the nearby lake, or further away to Berkeley Springs, Shepherdstown, Harper's Ferry, etc. Bathroom is nice except for badly-stained toilet, which is odd because the rest of the house is totally pristine! Furnishings seem inexpensive but fit the space well. Really a nice stay. Would recommend!
Great house in a good location. The backyard was really the best part, it was where we spent most of our time. The house has everything you need for your stay!
This was an amazing way to celebrate my graduation. It was spacious and a beautiful location. Tony was awesome and super communicative. Loved it!
Stayed in the cabin for a staff retreat and it was lovely! Tony is very responsive and helpful, the place was clean and quiet, and the private lake was great. Would definitely stay again!
Tony was a highly responsive and communicative host. Truly a lovely space.
Lots of space, in a great location and very quiet/relaxing. Had a great weekend staying in the cabin!
