Discover What's Around Your Cabin at The Woods Resort
Golf, Pools, and Resort Amenities
The Woods is home to 36 holes of golf across two courses, Mountain View and Stony Lick, along with two outdoor pools, an indoor pool with a hot tub, tennis and pickleball courts, a fitness center, a playground, and the Sleepy Creek Spa. The clubhouse grille and pub is an easy spot for lunch after a round. Most amenities charge a separate fee, so check the details on your listing before you go. Several of our homes, like Clubhouse Retreat, sit close enough to the course that you can watch the light change over the fairways from the living room.
Sleepy Creek and the Surrounding Forest
The Woods borders the Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area, more than 20,000 acres of forested ridges with hiking trails, a 205-acre lake for fishing and paddling, and some of the quietest backcountry in the Eastern Panhandle. It's the kind of place where you can walk for an hour and see more deer than people. Most of our homes put you a few minutes from a trailhead, so a morning hike still leaves plenty of the day for the porch.
Berkeley Springs, 25 Minutes Away
America's first spa town is close enough for an afternoon. Soak in the warm mineral water at Berkeley Springs State Park, browse the galleries and antique shops downtown, then stay for dinner at Lot 12 Public House or The Vine Trattoria. The drive back through the hills is short, and the fireplace will still be warm when you get in.
Cacapon Resort State Park
About 35 minutes from The Woods, Cacapon Resort State Park adds more than 6,000 acres of trails, a lake beach open in summer, seasonal guided horseback rides, and a ridge-top overlook worth the climb. It's a good pick for a full outdoor day when you want a change of scenery from the resort. Pack a picnic from your cabin kitchen and you're set until sunset.
Day Trips to Harpers Ferry and Antietam
The Woods sits in a sweet spot for history lovers. Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, where the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers meet, is about 45 minutes away, and Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland, is a similar drive. Both make easy half-day trips, with plenty of time to be back at The Woods for a soak or a fire pit night.
