Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area adds thousands of additional acres for those who want longer, quieter stretches of forest. The hiking here is accessible, rewarding, and rarely crowded, which is exactly the kind of trail time that makes a mountain weekend feel complete, with your Blue Maple cottage waiting when you’re ready to rest.

The Cacapon River runs through Morgan County and is one of the cleanest free-flowing rivers in West Virginia. Tubing, kayaking, and fishing are all popular throughout the warmer months, and the river’s gentle current makes it an easy, low-effort way to spend an afternoon outdoors. Several local outfitters offer rentals and shuttle service, so there is nothing to plan beyond showing up and getting in.
