In the Area:
1. Lost River State Park (distance from house - 35 mins): Lost River State Park’s almost 4000 acres feature a public swimming pool, horseback trail riding, miles of hiking trails, and a “ripped from the 1980s” ⅓ mile exercise trail that is especially a hit with the kids. Lost River is known for its Cranny Crow overlook on top of Big Ridge Mountain, which offers a commanding view of five counties.
2. Kimsey Run Lake (distance from house - 20 mins) offers a great spot for fishing and you’ll often see eagles floating overhead.
3. Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad (distance from house - 40 mins): As you wind along the South Branch of the Potomac River, you’ll enter a visually striking gorge known as the Trough. One of the most scenic spots along the South Branch, the Trough is home to American bald eagles. All excursions are round-trip and include narration.
4. Trout Pond (distance from house - 35 mins): boasts two beautiful lakes: Rock Cliff Lake and Trout Pond. Relax on a sandy mountain beach or fish for stocked trout while kids splash in the cool waters of Rock Cliff Lake. Trout Pond, home to native Brook trout, is the only natural lake in West Virginia.
Whether you're seeking outdoor adventure, scenic hikes, local charm, or simply a peaceful place to unwind, there's no shortage of things to see and do just minutes from the cabin—perfect for making unforgettable memories in the mountains.
