Positive:
Very comfortable room with high-quality furnishings. The location is perfect for access to downtown and great restaurants. Easy parking.
We slept really well in the super comfy bed, and despite being a shared house, we heard no noise.
We would highly recommend The Legacy Inn for a stop in Luray.

The cups in the room were dirty but it wasn’t a huge deal I just washed them to have coffee in the morning.

I think the cost may be a little bit higher than desired but the host was extremely responsive and very attuned to our needs, overall 4/5. Some minor scuffs and such were in the house that may need to be touched up, but other than that the host was responsive and it was a safe place to stay close to hiking adventures. Being one of the only places close to the national park I would suggest it for hikers and cavern go-ers. Very close to some cute coffee shops, breweries, and of course the river in the backyard!

Absolutely loved our stay here! We booked the Cash and Carter Room, which is an en suite with a private entrance—tucked next to the living room area, though it seemed rarely used during our visit, so noise wasn’t an issue at all. There’s also a cozy sitting area in the main house if you feel like lounging.
It’s close to town and in walking distance to a beer garden where you can sit and have a drink outside and listen to live music.
Our room was incredibly spacious and comfortable, with a massive bathroom and thoughtful touches like a record player and a few vinyls to set the mood. The property includes two bikes, perfect for cruising around town, and a great fire pit for winding down in the evening. Pro tip: grab a lighter and firewood bundle from the roadside—way cheaper than the $9 option at 7-Eleven.
The kitchen was stocked with Keurig coffee, bottled water, and a nice selection of trail bars to kickstart your morning. All in all, this place is a gem. Highly recommend!

This is a nice place to stay, easy to find and very quiet. There is a parking lot next to the house. The location is very good, next to the Main Street with lots of restaurants and cafes. The room is clean and spacious, but the shower water pressure is a bit low for washing hair.

Our room at the Legacy Inn was perfect for our stay in Virginia! Tony was a great host and very friendly and responsive. The room was very clean and cozy and had everything we needed for our stay. They even offer free breakfast in the main lobby each morning. The location was great as well, and there are several restaurants and cafes within walkable distance from the hotel and Shenandoah National Park was less than an hour away. We loved our stay here and would definitely stay again!

Check in and check out. Access is by key code only. Check out says 10.30 to 11am however my key code expired at 10am so was unable to access main house to wash dishes I had used before I left. If I had let my door shut before I removed all my belongings I would not have been able to re enter room. Not good, be aware.

Inside, warm tones, vintage décor, and soft lighting create a space that feels both personal and inviting. Just outside your door, the peaceful setting of the Shenandoah Valley invites slow starts and unhurried evenings.
The Suite
Located on the first floor, the Cash & Carter Suite offers a private retreat within The Legacy Inn. A king-size bed with a hand-carved wooden headboard anchors the room, surrounded by rich textures and musical accents inspired by its namesakes. Two wingback chairs by the window provide a comfortable place to read or relax, while hardwood floors and thoughtful details reflect the inn’s historic character. The en-suite bathroom includes a full-size tub and shower combo, offering a place to unwind at the end of the day. Please note the fireplace shown in photos is decorative.
Access & Shared Spaces
The suite features its own private external entrance, allowing you to come and go with ease. While your suite is private, the property itself is a shared, adults-only inn with seven suites. Guests have access to common areas such as the entryway, parlor, and outdoor spaces, where a respectful, quiet atmosphere is maintained for everyone’s comfort.
Kitchen & Essentials
The suite includes a kitchen area for preparing simple meals, along with a microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker. A dedicated workspace and Wifi are available, making it easy to stay connected if needed. Additional conveniences include a TV, board games, and access to washer and dryer in the building.
Outdoor Living & Surroundings
Step outside to enjoy shared outdoor spaces including a patio or balcony and outdoor furniture. The property’s wrap-around porch and backyard offer places to sit, read, or take in views of the Blue Ridge foothills and landscaped grounds. Complimentary bikes are available on a first-come, first-served basis, offering an easy way to explore nearby downtown Luray or the Luray Greenway along Hawksbill Creek.
Comfort & Practical Details
The inn is equipped with air conditioning, heating, and portable fans for added comfort. Free parking is available on the premises. As part of a historic property, climate control is managed with care to maintain the structure’s integrity while providing a comfortable stay.
A Shared, Adults-Only Stay
The Legacy Inn is designed as an adults-only environment centered on rest and relaxation. Whether you’re spending time in your private suite or enjoying the shared spaces, the setting encourages a slower pace and a sense of connection to the surrounding landscape.
Guests can book a single suite, multiple rooms, or the entire Inn.
Please note the fireplace in the photos is decorative and not a functioning fireplace.
Bikes are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to grab one early and enjoy the ride!
Longer Stays
For stays of 14 nights or longer, guests will be asked to e-sign a rental agreement prior to arrival. This agreement helps us comply with local requirements while protecting the property, and will be sent in advance for review.
Please note: this is an adults only, shared-space property. While suites are private, common areas like the entryway, parlor, and outdoor spaces are shared with other guests, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Please note: The Inn is heated and cooled using mini split systems, which are energy-efficient and help us maintain comfort without altering the structure of our historic building. The mini split in the shared guest space is set to 70°F for your comfort. If the area feels too warm or too cool, you're welcome to turn off the unit using the remote; however, we kindly ask that you return it to 70°F or turn it back on when you leave the space. Due to the limitations of a historic property, we also recommend bringing a personal fan for added comfort during the warmer months.
